Stress is inevitable. We all have it. But with a few practices, we can handle it, and reduce the volume of anxiety that plauges us. Below are a few ways that I have found to help. Find the one that is best for you and make the most of it.
One anxiety-relieving procedure is deep breathing. Breathing properly is fundamental for good mind and body and it helps you relax by increasing the oxygen levels conveyed into your body. The next time stress overcomes you, try sitting calmly and take deep, slow breaths. Count gradually from one to four while you inhale and then count backwards from four to one as you breathe out. Continue doing this for several minutes until you feel at peace and ready to deal with the challenge at hand.
Next is visualization. If you are under stress and are thinking anxious thoughts, you will naturally tight up. The capacity to overcome this negative frame of mind is in your ability to conceptualize. You can relocate your thoughts to more upbeat pictures and minimize the anxiety in your body. As with deep breathing, you initiate the process by getting into a comfortable location. Next, close your eyes and imagine a relaxing place - somewhere you feel safe and secure. What you picture doesn't really matter, as long as it relaxes you.
Another technique is referred to as 'progressive relaxation'. All this means is to quietly relax each muscle in your body as well as slowing your breaths, and so lower your heart rate and blood pressure. Normally, this method involves you first tensing a select set of muscles for a few seconds and then letting go of the tension, gradually relaxing them.
The fourth method is called the 'thought stopping' procedure. This helps you to overcome negative anxious thinking and being overly fearful. Anxous thoughts are known to lead to doubting oneself, fear, and disruptive conduct.
Yoga is a further form of relaxation that works for some, to ease the strain. Not only does it relax your mind, it also can improve your general bodily fitness. The breathing you do during this exercise has been found to lower blood pressure. Doing yoga also helps your posture, muscle tone, and suppleness. It has apparently been renowned to improve a person's view on life in general!
The last method is the simple act of listening to soothing music or to special tension relieving CD's. These are designed to ease the anxiety you feel. Put on your favorite choice, close your eyes, sit back and delight in it.
